Display Energy Certificates

Display Energy Certificates (DEC) were introduced in 2008 as part of the UK’s response to the Energy Performance in Buildings Directive (EPBD). They are now required to be displayed in all public sector buildings/offices larger than 1000 m2, frequently visited by the public. DEC

DECs rate the operational energy efficiency and performance of a building with a rating from A to G - much like domestic appliances.  The operational rating received is based on historical energy consumptions and benchmarked relative to the average energy performance for the same category of building.

DECs must be prominently displayed where all public visitors will be able to see them.

Government-approved software is available to produce the necessary DECs and accompanying Advisory Report. Only an accredited Energy Assessor, who is a member of an accreditation scheme, such as CIBSE Certification, can produce a DEC.

Energen can assist with gathering the essential data and surveying the relevant buildings, leading to the production of DECs, An advisory report, providing valuable information on specific energy-saving opportunities, will also accompany the DEC for each building.
